Spray Technician

JOB FUNCTION:

The IPM Tech is responsible for applying various types of pesticides and beneficial insects in a safe manner to greenhouse crops and grounds. The IPM Tech also assists the growing team in performing trials with growth regulators and other chemicals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule spray applications around other tasks being performed in the greenhouses
  • Follow WPS standards while using chemicals- this includes mixing, loading, application, clean-up and disposal
  • Maintain clean safe area for storing and mixing chemicals
  • Scout plants for pests, diseases, and growth issues
  • Perform and document trails as outlined by the Head Grower

COMPETENCIES:

  • Able to communicate in verbal and in writing, in person, and via phone or radio
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, both verbal and written
  • A valid Oregon Private Pesticide Applicator’s License must be obtained within 60 days of starting this position and kept current
  • Able to wear a respirator for extended periods of time
  • Basic math skills and some mechanical aptitude
  • Able to work independently, self-motivated and flexible
  • Organizational skills and able to coordinate work with other teams
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to complete all assignments as required

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work evening shift, including weekends.
  • Continuously walk, stand, bend, kneel (and remain working below knee-level) as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and conditions.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds in an environment that is often hot.
